How
does it work?
When
the cartridge is sealed in a drilled hole, the gas pressurizes the sides
of the hole to produce a shearing/splitting of the rock or concrete. The
cartridge contains a propriety technology that enhances the transfer of energy
into the rock or concrete to increase its breaking effectiveness.
Are rock breaking cartridges an explosive?
It
is controlled by the Explosives Act of South Africa and has a UN
Classification of hazard class 1.4S which is the same classification that is used
for small arms ammunition. Rock Breaking Cartridges are non-detonating and is not liable
to exploded in bulk, unlike conventional explosives.
Will
it break all sizes of rock and concrete?
Rock Breaking Cartridges are available in sizes from 2 g to 1000 g allowing operators to handles
the smallest of rocks to the largest steel reinforced concrete or bedrock.
Is
it waterproof?
The Cartridges are waterproof and can be used in wet holes or in situation such as dams where
underwater breaking is required. We have used it successfully at up to 20 m depth
in salt water marine conditions.
How
are the charges initiated?
The
initiation system is simple. All that is required is to attach the
cartridge leads to the lead wire that is in turn attached to a firing box that
sends a current to the cartridges inert initiation system.
Will
my house be damaged by Green Break Technology?
These Cartridges have been used on several highly sensitive, inner-city rock breaking
projects such as the Michelangelo Towers in Sandton Johannesburg, the Tyger
Valley Centre in Cape Town, several inner-city projects in Kula Lumpur
and Singapore and the upper reaches of Camps Bay and Fish Hoek without any adverse
effects. Your house is safe!
What
about my neighbours' concerns?
Our
operator requires a permit from the SAPS to both convey the cartridges
as well as to use it on your property. He also requires you to appoint him as
the blaster and he must obtain written consent from other authorities having jurisdiction
in the area prior to using it. Your neighbours have no need to worry!
What
about blasting safety?
Our
properly trained and accredited operators will provide you with a Blasting
Solutions Safety Plan for perusal and discussion prior to operations commencing
so that all of your concerns will be addressed.
What
are the advantages over other methods such as chemicals?
Blasting
Solutions insists on environmentally clean operations and therefore toxic and
other chemical options are excluded. The use of rock breaking cartridges is a faster, cleaner,
more efficient and a much more cost-effective operation than any other method
of demolishing rock or concrete.
How
long will the operation take?
Blasting
Solutions will do a site inspection and within 24 hours, will fax or email
a written quote to you. On acceptance of the quote, we will commence work after
obtaining the necessary consent from the relevant authorities and approval from
the SAPS Explosives Unit. The actual task is quick and involves drilling
holes for the cartridges and initiating the cartridges. We
do not remove the rubble but can assist you in obtaining a cartage contractor
to remove the rubble.
